"Having
personally photographed, hunted, recorded and researched
all known 150 existing, (or recently defunct) covered
bridges in Ohio, that I have found in almost each county,
I now own The Definitive Collection of Covered Bridges
in Ohio. I plan to publish a book soon. To see more

The
Harshaville Covered Bridge
|

Adams
County # 35-01-02. Harshaville Covered Bridge
The Harsha family owned a mill located next to the Harshaville
Covered Bridge which was built in 1855. The community and
the bridge were named after this family. The bridge crosses
Cherry Fork Creek, a tributary of Ohio Brush Creek, the primary
stream that drains Adams County. Cherry Fork has an average
bed width of 75 feet and is a calm stream most of the year.

|
Originally, built as a single span, the Harshaville Covered
Bridge is now supported by two concrete piers located at quarter
points. The bridge rests on the original creek stone abutments.
The exterior has a red tin roof and white siding and the interior
has a multiple kingpost truss encased with a double Burr arch.
This truss in the Harshaville is particularly interesting
because the center panel of the multiple kingpost truss is
doubled. The bridge is open to local traffic.

A pathway leads down to the creek bed and if the water is
low, one can walk down the creek to appreciate the bridge.
This bridge was photographed in early March with a blue sky.
