The
Homestead Covered Bridge was designed by architect Robert Wandel and
built by Dave Holley Construction. Wandel & Schnell
Architects received the 1992 Honor Award by the American Institute
of Architects. Completed in July of 1992 at a cost of $57,300.00,
the bridge is 47 feet 3 inches long, with a Howe truss roof design
and a Warren truss for the floor and sides.
Homestead Park was designed by Myers Schmalenberger
Inc., Landscape Architects/Land Planner, the Washington Township
Community Development Committee & Jannell Thomas. Tim Schmalenberger
was the primary Architect. Washington Township was the recipient
of the Ohio Parks & Recreation 1992 Park Area Development
Award.

This family oriented park was designed to
preserve the rural heritage of the community. It replicates an
old covered bridge in style, but modified to be wider, allowing
an open view of the park to all travelers who come over the bridge
by car, bike, or on foot.
The Homestead is a public park owned and operated
by Washington Township. The park offers family recreation at
its best. Since the park opened in 1992, a toddler water play
area, an amphitheater, a refreshment/restroom facility with a
waiting platform, and a replica of a railroad depot have all
been added:The park is open to the public daily form 9:00 a.m.
until sunset.
