"Having personally photographed, hunted, recorded and researched all known 150 existing, (or recently defunct) covered bridges in Ohio, that I have found in almost each county, I now own The Definitive Collection of Covered Bridges in Ohio. I plan to publish a book soon. To see more photography about covered bridges and other topics, visit my website"

 Eagle Creek Covered Bridge

The Eagle Creek Covered Bridge#35-08-18 located in Brown County, was once also known as the Bowman Covered Bridge and as the Neel Covered Bridge. tThe bridge spanned Eagle Creek, the principle river draining southwestern Brown County and Adams County. The creek's bed averages 175 to 200 feet.

Eagle Creek Covered Bridge was built in 1872 with a Smith truss. The bridge was 174 feet long and was the longest single span covered bridge in Ohio. The floor had a thin cover of blacktop over wood planking. The exterior of the bridge had a rusted gray tin roof and white wooden plank siding. Eagle Creek Covered Bridge rested on limestone abutments reinforced by concrete. This bridge had a major renovation in 1952, and in 1963 the roof was replaced.

Observing of the bridge from a nearby hill, where one could appreciate the entire bridge, the creek and the wooded hills, was wonderful. The bridge was well-maintained by the State of Ohio Transportation Department, because Eagle Creek Covered Bridge had the distinction of being the only remaining covered bridge on the Ohio Highway System. It was the only covered bridge in Brown county listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and was open to local vehicular traffic. On 7 March 1997, Eagle Creek Covered Bridge was washed away by early spring storms and floods.

This Bridge no longer exists and that is why there is no map included with this article.

That is also why I mourn the disappearance of one more of these historic treasures by placing a black border around this article.
