Netcher Road Covered Bridge

Ashtabula County; Jefferson Township; Jefferson, Ohio

John Smollen, Ashtabula County Engineer builds another new covered bridge in Ohio. Now there are 147 covered bridges in Ohio. Smollen says that covered bridges are more cost effective than steel & concrete, and costs less to maintain than a steel and concrete bridge.

A crew consisting of Mennonites has been busy constructing the side trusses on the ground. Righter Construction Company of Columbus, Ohio was awarded the construction contract. As of June 17th the bridge construction has been completed, the construction company is now grading out the road for the Open Day ceremonies on 29 August 1999.

Constructed in a neo-Victorian style and is 110 feet long. The bridge will feature a timber arch with Haupt Walls. Built over Mill Creek in Jefferson Township at a cost of $819,050.00.
